Computerland was the leading global chain of retail computer stores during the early years of the personal computer revolution. The first Computerland opened in 1976 and the chain grew to about 800 stores by 1985. Chosen to introduce IBM’s first personal computer (PC) in 1981, it quickly became the supplier of choice to businesses and individuals across the U.S.
The very first store, Computerland Hayward, was opened as the franchise prototype on Foothill Boulevard in Hayward, CA. It quickly became one of the most successful computer retail locations in the region, selling Apple, IBM and Compaq PCs to a young Silicon Valley.
We acquired the Hayward store in 1977, and over the next few years our customer base grew from mom-and-pops to major corporations, selling and servicing computers, printers, monitors and accessories, with drop-in and on-site service, and a wide range of professional services.
Today, as Computerland of Berkeley we are recognized as one of the most consistently reliable service centers for Apple and Windows PCs. We are an Apple Premium Authorized service center and perform all AppleCare and warranty repairs. Our technicians are also certified to work on Windows-based Toshiba, HP, IBM, Lenovo, Acer and Sony.
